Patients will benefit from 10 lakhs every month
There are about six to seven lakh cancer patients registered in various medical institutions and medical colleges in the state. In Uttar Pradesh, about 2.5 lakh patients are increasing every year. The number of patients with rare diseases and infectious diseases is also about one to one and a half lakh. These patients will directly benefit from the basic customs duty (BCD) in the budget by completely exempting cancer, rare diseases and infectious diseases and 36 life-saving drugs.
Medical experts say that exemption from customs duty can benefit the average cancer patient by up to around Rs 10 thousand per month as severe patients have to undergo chemotherapy between 15 and 21 days, while other drugs related to it continue regularly.
Director of Kalyan Singh Super Specialty Cancer Institute Dr. MLB Bhatt says all patients, rich and poor, will benefit from the end of customs duties on medicines. The treatment of cancer patients lasts for many years. In such a situation, the government has given a big relief.
