There will be a tough competition in the New Delhi seat, trying to get the lost ground…

BJP Vs AAP Vs Congress: Assembly elections in Delhi are going on at a fast pace. The Delhi elections 2025 will be held on Feb 5 and the results of election will be declared on February 8. The BJP is working hard to return to power in Delhi after 26 years. The main slogan of the BJP is ‘Chenjan’. The corruption allegations against Arvind Kejriwal are being made an issue by the BJP. The contest is a thorn between the ruling AAP, the fast-growing BJP and the Congress, which are trying to regain their lost ground.
The BJP says this is the best chance to return to power given the corruption allegations levelled against Kejriwal and the growing public discontent against the AAP. AAP is accepting the challenge. Kejriwal’s work and new promises, such as the proposal of a monthly honorarium of Rs 2,100 for women in Delhi, are hoping to win. The BJP was in power in Delhi from 1993 to 1998. Madan Lal Khurana, Sahib Singh Verma and Sushma Swaraj were the chief ministers at that time.
Tough contest in New Delhi seat
The AAP has announced all its candidates, including Kejriwal, who is contesting from the New Delhi seat, and Chief Minister Atishi, who is contesting from Kalkaji. In New Delhi, Kejriwal is pitted against former chief minister Sahib Singh Verma’s son and former chief minister Singh Verma Parvesh Verma and Congress candidate and former chief minister Sheila Dikshit’s son Sandeep Dikshit. This seat is going to become a battlefield.
There is a political battle on these issues
Kejriwal has launched the song ‘Fir Like Kejriwal’ from the AAP election campaign. The BJP has responded by accusing AAP of corruption and pointing to its failures in key areas such as clean drinking water, road quality, public transport, air pollution and healthcare. The two parties are also embroiled in a dispute over voter lists. The Aam Aadmi Party has accused the BJP of trying to remove the names of Aam Aadmi Party supporters. The BJP has alleged that the AAP is helping illegal migrants from Bangladesh and Myanmar to strengthen its voter base.
Congress’s path is difficult
Meanwhile, the Congress has been working to regain its influence in Delhi after lagging the AAP in recent years. The party has fielded several prominent candidates, including city president Devendra Yadav from Change of Time and Mahila Congress national president Alak Lamba from Kalkaji. The Congress has also launched a new welfare scheme for women, promising Rs 2,500 per month if elected from the party.
BJP has a high-profile candidate
The BJP candidates include many high-profile names like former Delhi Congress president Arvinder Singh Lovely and former AAP ministers Raj Kumar Chauhan, Kailash Gehlot and Raj Kumar Anand. All of them have recently joined the party. Former BJP MP from South Delhi Ramesh Bidhuri is contesting from Kejriwal’s Kelkaji seat. He has already sparked controversy over his remarks about Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Atishi.
AAP dominance
Since its formation in 2012, the AAP has emerged as a major force in Delhi politics. In its first election, the Aam Aadmi Party had won 28 seats in the 70-member Delhi Assembly. The BJP won 32 seats and the Congress 8. In 2015, the AAP won 67 out of 70 seats with a landslide victory with 54.3% vote share, while the BJP managed to win only 3 seats and the Congress could not win a single seat. The AAP dominated in 2020, when it again won 62 seats with 53.6% vote share. The BJP improved its numbers to 8 seats, while the Congress was again left unrepresented in the Assembly.
