5 billionaire candidates : Assembly elections are nearing in Delhi. All parties including Congress, BJP, Aam Aadmi Party have announced their candidates for all 70 seats in Delhi. According to the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), an organisation that analyses elections, Karnail Singh of the Bharatiya Janata Party is the richest candidate among the 699 candidates who are trying his luck in the Delhi Assembly elections with assets of Rs 259 crore. The three candidates have not disclosed any assets in their affidavits.

Five candidates for billionaires in Delhi

According to the report, five candidates are billionaires who have declared assets of over Rs 100 crore. It said that three per cent or 23 candidates have declared assets of more than Rs 50 crore. There are 31.76 per cent or 222 candidates who have reported assets of less than Rs 10 lakh in their affidavits.

These candidates have the most assets

The 5 richest candidates include Karnail Singh (BJP, Shakur Basti) with assets of Rs 259.67 crore, Manjinder Singh Sirsa (BJP, Rajouri Garden) with assets of Rs 248.85 crore, Gurcharan Singh (Congress, Krishna Nagar with assets of Rs 130.90 crore), Parvesh Verma (BJP, New Delhi) with assets of Rs 115.63 crore and a Dhanvati Chandila (AAP, Rajouri Garden) with assets of Rs 109.90 crore, ADR said.

Three candidates declared zero property

In contrast, Delhi has three candidates who have declared null assets, including Shabana (National Republican Party) and Yogesh Kumar (independent). In the lowest assets, Ashok Kumar (independent) has recorded assets of Rs 6,586 and Anita (independent) has recorded assets of Rs 9,500.

Highest Liability on Pravesh Verma

Many candidates have also mentioned the liability in their affidavits. According to the report, Parvesh Verma (BJP) has the highest liability of Rs 74.36 crore, while Manjinder Singh Sirsa (BJP) has a liability of Rs 57.68 crore. The total assets declared by all candidates is Rs 3,952 crore, with the average wealth of each candidate being Rs 5.65 crore as against Rs 4.34 crore in 2020.
