At least a year of delay to government staff in taking the benefit of 8th pay commission, why is it like this?

8th Pay Commission : This news is for lakhs of government employees of the Government of India and the state government. The possibility of a big jump in his salary is now over. For at least one year, they are not going to get a paycheque under the recommendations of the eight pay commissions. Because, the Government of India has not put any money for salary increase on the basis of the Eighth Pay Commission in the budget for the financial year 2025-26 presented in Parliament. In fact, the reference period is currently being sought for the Eighth Pay Commission. Thus, it will take at least a year for the Pay Commission report to come in. Only after that it will be possible to decide which employee’s salary will increase by how much. Only by assessing that by increasing the salary, the Government of India will be able to arrange funds for this in its next budget i.e. budget of 2026-27.
Wrote to the ministries to suggest a reference period
According to the report, Manoj Govil, Expenditure Secretary, Ministry of Finance, has also acknowledged that from the next financial year, it will be possible for government employees to receive increased funds as per the Eighth Pay Commission. Currently, the Ministry of Finance has sent letters to the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Personnel and Training asking them to suggest a reference period. The process of functioning of the Pay Commission of the Government of India will commence only after the Government of India approves their reference period. Manoj Govil also said that the Pay Commission will start its work as soon as the reference period is approved by the Government of India.
The last commission took more than a year
The previous commission, i.e. the seventh pay commission, took more than a year to submit the report. Even if the eighth pay commission is constituted by March 2025, its report will not come at least before March 2026.
