Budget 2025 for Gig workers, now these benefits will be available with ID card

Gig workers in Budget 2025: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, while presenting the general budget of the country on February 1, 2025, said that the government will provide registration facility on the e-Shram portal along with identity card to 1 crore gig workers. They will also get health benefits under PM Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY).
Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) is a flagship scheme of the government under which insurance coverage up to Rs 5 lakh per annum is provided to every family on admission to the listed secondary and tertiary hospital. Members registered on the e-Shram portal will be able to utilise the insurance coverage provided under PM Jan Arogya Yojana.
What is e-Shram platform?
The e-Shram platform launched by the Government of India aims to provide social security to unorganised sector workers. Through this, their access to government welfare programmes becomes easier. It maintains a database of labourers.
How to register yourself on e-Shram?
For this, Aadhaar card number linked to mobile, savings bank account number with IFSC code, if someone does not have a mobile number linked to Aadhaar, then he can register himself through biometric authentication at the Common Service Centre (CSC) or State Service Centre (SSK).
How to apply for e-Shram Card online?
- First of all go to the self-registration page on the e-Shram portal
- Now enter your phone number linked to Aadhaar and click on the Send OTP option
- After agreeing to the terms and conditions, enter the OTP sent to the mobile and write your Aadhaar number
- Verify your personal data now shown on the screen
- After this, fill in your address, educational qualification, enrolment details, bank details and click on submit
- Also, don’t forget to mention what kind of work you do as a gig worker
- After the process is completed, you will get your e-Shram card
What are gig workers?
Employees working on online platforms are called gig workers, who work as freelancers rather than permanent employees. The company does not pay them salaries or allowances like permanent employees.
