What is VVPAT machine?
The VVPAT or Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail will ensure that the vote cast by the voter goes to the same candidate for whom he/she has cast his vote. However, EVMs are a safe medium to conduct elections, so your vote goes to your favourite candidate. VVPAT is another medium through which you can ensure that your vote has gone to the right place.
After casting your vote on the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM), the VVPAT prepares a printout of the vote. This includes the candidate’s photograph, the party’s election symbol and serial number. This printout is visible for seven seconds so that the voter can see it and confirm that his vote has been registered. If any irregularity is found, the voter can inform the presiding officer about it. After that, it will be investigated. During this period, if any irregularities are found, voting is suspended for some time.
