CM Atishi and Sanjay Singh’s arguments: The Rouse Avenue Court has decided to argue on February 6 on the arguments of accused Chief Minister Atishi and AAP MLA Sanjay Singh in the defamation complaint. Former Congress MP Sandeep Dikshit has filed a defamation suit against him.

His lawyer said he had received a copy of the complaint. Dikshit is contesting from Delhi against former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal. Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Paras Dalal said the case has been listed for February 6.

Chief Minister Atishi and AAP MP Sanjay Singh’s lawyer Rajat Bhardwaj said they have received a copy of the complaint. However, some pages are not worth reading. The court asked Sandeep Dikshit’s lawyer to provide a readable copy of the documents. Sandeep Dikshit’s lawyer also said that if the proposed accused withdraws his charges, he may think of not prosecuting him.

The court had on January 16 issued notices to Atishi and Sanjay Singh on a defamation complaint filed by former Congress MP Sandeep Dikshit. Notices were issued to hear the proposed accused before taking cognisance of the complaint.

Refusal to consider plea to cancel AAP registration

The high court on Monday refused to entertain a petition seeking cancellation of the AAP registration. The petition had alleged that the AAP had failed to disclose the criminal history of the party and its candidates in the upcoming assembly elections. The petitioner urged a bench of Chief Justice D K Upadhyay and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela to direct the Election Commission of India to cancel the party’s registration, arguing that not disclosing the criminal history of the candidates is in violation of the Supreme Court’s directions. The petition filed by a man named Ashwin Mudgal said that the Supreme Court has ordered the publication of criminal history by candidates and political parties.
