AAP Vs BJP Vs Congress: Aam Aadmi Party Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal, who has escaped the fervour of the Delhi Assembly elections, is raising several questions against the visit of the legislatures and her own government. Why are you on the streets against the party? What are the public’s grievances?
Why visit legislatures only during elections?
I already believe that sitting in a room can’t work the AC. Earlier, when I was the chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women, I used to come to the grassroots level on women’s issues. I have also spoken against the government about night shelters, street lights. Now that I am an MP, I am going on the ground with people’s issues. The work of an MP is to determine the accountability of governments and make policies. I am an activist and I have always had that style. There is also an effect.
The allegations of the opposing parties are on your own government. What is the public’s reaction?
I am an MP of the Aam Aadmi Party, so when water comes, people are around. You said that you will build roads like London Paris. You said that you will clean the garbage completely. I went to many gatherings in four-five months, be it Sangam Vihar, Bhalswa, Dwarka, Gokulpuri. The situation in Delhi today has never been in such a bad condition. The government says that we have given water for free but go to any slum, people will say that they will have to buy water for 50 to 100 rupees every day.
Your government says that a lot of work has been done?
This is the government of propaganda. The government is running through a press conference. You are seeing the performance of the chief minister, it is zero, while she was a PWD minister and water minister for a long time. The roads in their meeting are badly broken. They talk about good results in education, but they fail children in grade 9, 90% of whom are unable to return to the school system. The cost is higher than the plan to advertise.
AAP leaders say that the LG has stopped many works
See, the Delhi Commission for Women is a recommended body, which can only suggest, but we had to change the lives of women, so we were able to do such a big job, whether it was the police, whether it is the central government, whether it is the Delhi government, what we said was done. So your intention is right or you are able to work. You say all the time he didn’t let you do this, he didn’t let you do that. You have been crying the same for 10 years, so what is the guarantee that you will be able to work again in the next five years?
What will women say about honour money?
This is a good scheme, but if the Delhi government has not given a thousand rupees for a year, then what is the next guarantee? If you see this, they snatched 12 thousand rupees from every woman in Delhi. And this scheme is already a scheme in 9 states, what’s new?
What options do the people of Delhi have? BJP or Congress?
I haven’t made much assessment, but it is certain that the election is not easy this time because people are babbling at the moment. People should question every leader and vote thoughtfully.
