An allocation of Rs 4004.31 crore has been made in the budget for the bullet train running between Mumbai and Ahmedabad. The outline between India and Japan for the bullet train running between Mumbai and Ahmedabad was finalised in 2015. Even after 10 years, the bullet train has not been able to run. At the same time, the high-speed rail network has more than doubled worldwide.

The high-speed rail network between Mumbai and Ahmedabad is 508 kilometres long. The train will pass through two states and one Union Territory (Maharashtra, Gujarat and Dadra and Nagar Haveli). There will be 12 stations in the entire network. It is being claimed that this bullet train will run at a speed of 320 kilometres per hour.
On the other hand, according to report, the network of high-speed trains worldwide has more than doubled between 2015 and 2022. In 2013, the worldwide high-speed train network was 27227 km long. In 2022, it increased to 59421 km.
China is at the forefront
China is at the forefront of the longest high-speed rail network. China has a 1318 km long high-speed rail network between Beijing and Shanghai. On it, the train passes at a speed of 300 km per hour and completes the journey in 4 hours and 18 minutes. This is the distance between Delhi and Mumbai.
Japan comes after China in terms of large networks. There is a 499 km long rail network between Tokyo and Osaka. It is the distance from Hyderabad to Bengaluru. The train passes between Tokyo and Osaka at a speed of 220 km per hour. The train is capable of travelling at a speed of 300 km per hour.
This is followed by Rome and Milan in Italy with a 478 km long rail network. The train runs at a speed of 150 kilometres per hour. The UK also has a high-speed rail network. There is a high-speed train between London and Paris. The train travels 342 km long at a speed of about 150 km per hour.
Now what is the status of our bullet train?
The project of this first bullet train running between Mumbai and Ahmedabad is currently being worked on. A 21-kilometre-long tunnel is being constructed in Maharashtra. According to the information, about 340 kilometres of the network has been built so far. The project is said to be completed by 2026.
