New UPI Rule: The rules receive multiple changes at the start of each month. Similar to this, changes were made as soon as June started, including changes related to UPI payments. Let us inform you that the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) would be enforcing these fresh rules. This adjustment will have a greater impact, particularly on merchants and regular UPI users. From June 1 to August 1, 2025, there will be major changes for you if you use UPI. Tell us about any upcoming changes.

What are the new UPI rules?

The UPI rule has been put into effect by NPCI. The user will only see the banking name of the “Ultimate Beneficiary,” or the actual recipient, while making a payment under this rule. The information says that only the names that are registered with the bank will be available to you, and that the altered names will no longer be displayed. Instructions have also been provided to cut the transaction response time from 30 to 15 seconds. By the end of June, that is, by June 30th, this can be applied to all UPI apps.

August will see changes.

There will be significant changes for UPI users starting on August 1, 2025. In a circular published by NPCI, rules for restricting the use of the UPI API (Application Programming Interface) have been provided. Its goal is to lessen the system’s excessive load in order to prevent issues like server outages. At present, auto-pay transactions can only be completed during off-peak hours, and balance checks are limited to 50 times per day.

The new rules allow you to check your balance from any app, such as Paytm or PhonePe, up to 50 times per day. In other words, you may check the balance 50/50 from each app if you use two. In addition, you will only be able to view the list of your accounts—that is, the accounts that are linked—twenty-five times each day. Additionally, NPCI has instructed banks to automatically display the balance following any transaction (such as sending or receiving money) to remove the need for regular balance checks.
