Indian Railways modifies auto-upgrade policy - sleeper class tickets will no longer upgrade to 1AC, even if berths are available.
Now maximum 2-class upgrade allowed: SL→3A/2A (not 1A), 3A→2A/1A. Prevents overcrowding in premium coaches.
New rules aim to better manage reserved coach allocations and control crowding in higher-class compartments.
If upgraded ticket is cancelled, refund will be based on original booking class fare, not upgraded class fare.
Waiting list travelers caught in AC/sleeper coaches face fines: ₹440 (AC) or ₹250 (sleeper) plus travel charges.
WL ticket holders can now only travel in general coaches - not sleeper/AC coaches as before.
CRIS updating software to implement these new rules across all railway booking systems.
