BJP Postpones National President Appointment: Key Candidates & Election Process

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has postponed the appointment of its new national president till after the Delhi assembly elections. Sources predict that the party president election will take place between February 10 and February 20, 2025. Current president JP Nadda will continue to lead the party till the Delhi elections. The Lok Sabha elections in 2024 prompted a one-year extension of his term, which ended in January 2024.

The organizational election process continues.

The BJP is conducting its organizational election process. We are currently electing members of the National Council and State Council. According to the rules, at least 50% of the states’ units must complete their organizational elections before the election of the new national president. So far, only four states have completed the election of their state presidents.

Party leaders promise to complete this election process on time, a sign that the BJP is concentrating on fortifying its internal organization.

Who will be the next BJP president?

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat will consent to the selection of the new national president of the BJP. Many names are discussed in the list of potential candidates, but the party has not made any official announcement yet.

According to sources, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Bhupendra Yadav, Manohar Lal Khattar, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and party general secretary Vinod Tawde are prominent candidates in this race. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh is also among the potential candidates.

Experience and the regional equation

Dharmendra Pradhan is from Odisha and is considered a strong party pillar.

Bhupendra Yadav: He represents Rajasthan and has a strong hold on the organization’s work.

Vinod Tawde: He comes from Maharashtra and has a long organizational history.

All three leaders are considered close to Amit Shah.

According to the BJP constitution, only a party member who has been a member for at least 15 years can become its national president.

JP Nadda has been in charge of the party since 2020, and his term is now ending.
